Thoughts on Manifesting
We’ve all been inundated recently with the concepts of the “Law of Attraction” (now being referring to as “LOA” – oh how this former techie hates acronyms!) and “manifesting” and “co-creating”. But how many people do you know that are actually successfully using the Law of Attraction or are able to really manifest their hearts desire or co-create the life they think they deserve? Not many from my observations.
Why is it that so many people have a challenge manifesting what they desire? I know I’ve been there. I’ve done affirmations, visualizations, workshops, classes, you name it, all in an effort to “manifest” or “co-create” the life I desire. It has not worked very well. I hear this all the time from friends and clients and even strangers! It’s easy to see why so many people become disillusioned when they hear these words. They’ve tried it. They’ve tried everything just as described in the latest book or workshop and it just doesn’t seem to work very well. Most of them walk away cynical of the whole experience or feeling that there must be something wrong with them!
In fact, what I am finally beginning to understand is that the reason these ideas are not working for most people is not because the “Law of Attraction” doesn’t exist or because “manifesting” or “co-creating” are just terms in the most recent marketing hype designed to part us from our hard-earned money. It is because we have forgotten who we really are.
For the most part, I see people wanting to manifest a better life for themselves in some way or another. By their own definition that means a bigger house, a better car, a better job, a more loving relationship, more money, etc. thinking that by having these things they will live a happier, more peaceful life.
The problem with this view is that it’s backward. These are all desires that are coming directly from the Ego. They are not what is truly our deepest and most sacred desire for our lives. They are what the Ego wants to alleviate its own fear. We end up spending our lives struggling to get what we want because we can’t see who we really are.
To be able to powerfully and successfully use the “Law of Attraction”, to “manifest” or “co-create” we must first connect with our Divine self. For us to experience ourselves as who we really are, spiritual beings who are perfect, whole and complete, we literally have to let go of Ego. We are not human beings living in a world which is determined by outer circumstances and events, even though our Ego insists we are.
Memory and experience as viewed through the Ego is what keeps us trapped in the world as we know it. So how do we shift from this world of Ego expression to the world we, as Divine humans, want to experience? It is not by visualizing what we want or by controlling and focusing our thoughts. This is only trying to force Ego desires. Will we be successful doing this? Maybe a little, but it takes a lot of work and the Ego lives in constant fear that it will all be taken away!
Truly being able to “manifest” is about letting go of the Ego to allow the Divine vision to come through us. We came into this Earth plane with great desires. We don’t have to “visualize” or focus on them to make them happen. We simply must recognize the Ego and all its trappings and let it go. From our Divine Self, nothing is forced, nothing is manipulated. The vision already exists and from that place everything happens effortlessly to support it.
We all have inner Guidance available right here and now continually reminding us of our Divine desires but we have allowed our Ego to stifle that voice into a tiny whisper. The key to truly and effortlessly “manifesting” is to listen – to ignore the Ego and listen deeper. We can do this by switching our backward priorities from using the “Law of Attraction” to get what we think we want so that we can achieve peace, to prioritizing peace over anything. This will allow us to step into that space where everything we want already is.
